Yes, JEKA provides all food during your stay, usually starting with evening meal on your day of arrival and ending with provisions for packed lunches for the journey home. We make great efforts to provide a well-balanced and varied menu as we believe the food plays a very important part of your camp and we guarantee you won't go hungry!
In each location we carry a limited supply of vegetarian alternatives, subject to availability locally. We will try our utmost to cater for specific dietary requirements where possible, by also providing extra quantities of items on our menu that can be used - for example, extra eggs and cheese. However, as a standby we would suggest you take some of your own provisions with you to add variety to meals and in case of a shortage in our supplies.
YES you can now choose your accommodation centre providing that the size of your group is between the minimum and maximum occupancy for the particular house and the centre is still available. This is a great advantage to groups that book early. However if you have chosen a certain accommodation centre and the number in your group falls below the minimum number you then lose the right to stay in that house.
Each house is fully equipped for your stay with all cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery supplied. So all you need to take are your own personal towels and bed linen, we provide blankets (or duvets) and pillows. For the kitchen you need your own tea towels. As we do not supply cold drinks with meals (only tea and coffee) we would recommend you take dilutable squash which cannot be found on the continent. We find it goes further at meal times and is a healthier alternative to fizzy drinks. Also ask each member to take a plastic water bottle to take out with them during the day.
Due to limited luggage space on coaches, we must restrict each member to one piece of luggage (suitcases are better than rucksacks) each plus a small rucksack or bag to take on the coach with them containing everything they need for the journey. In addition to this we allow two pieces of group luggage per group which can be boxes measuring no more than 2ft x 2ft each for miscellaneous group items. Any extra luggage MUST be authorised by JEKA and the coach company prior to departure. Groups travelling by air should check with the airline they are travelling with regarding the amount of baggage and weight restrictions they have for both checked and non checked baggage as this varies between airlines.
JEKA has stocks of handbooks, literature and videos to help you make your choice of where to go. Once you've decided where and when to go, then contact us and make a no-obligation provisional booking, which we hold for you for 21 days while you get your group together, then put letters out to the parents requesting a £20.00 per person deposit to confirm your booking. During certain times of the year -, we can attend parents evenings/group meetings to give a presentation and answer any questions you may have. We are there every step of the way to assist and advise from the first enquiry until you arrive back from your Summer Camp!
We supply each group with a set menu, chosen by JEKA, which consists daily of a continental-type breakfast - bread, cheese, cold meats, eggs and cornflakes. Lunch is something you can make up into packed lunches to take with you during the day - bread, cheese, cold meats, fruit etc, then evening meal is always soup, a main meal for example, spaghetti Bolognese and dessert is usually fresh or tinned fruit or yoghurt. All menus are well balanced, varied and nutritious, good quality and the quantities, generous to say the least!
Although our minimum group size is advertised as 20, we can occasionally accept groups of between 15 and 20 depending on availability. Please note that groups of less than 20 do not qualify for a free local pick up.
Activities are not included in the tour price. Each group is individual and therefore entirely free to choose how much or how little they wish to do, depending on the groups interests and their budget. Costs for activities and excursions will vary considerably from country to country. An interesting and varied programme for a week can cost anything from £100 per person. It might be worth noting that your money will go much further in countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
A few months before departure we will ask you for a list of the activities and excursions that you wish to include in during your stay and we will fit these into a programme for you. Our local JEKA office will make all the necessary bookings for you, however, payment for these activities must be made direct to the activity providers once in resort in local currency. JEKA do not receive any payment for activities.
Our centres can be chalet-type houses (especially in Austria and Switzerland), normal houses which are usually typical of the region that you are staying in, or sometimes school buildings. Our centres are usually in village locations giving you a taste of local life, not in purpose-built villages or sites. Each group is always allocated their own centre so you can make it your home-from-home, what's more all gas and electricity charges are included too. Each centre is fully furnished and equipped, bedrooms are bunk-bedded sleeping 2-4 people for leaders and 6-10 bedded for younger members. There are ample washing facilities and sanitary facilities for the number that the centre accommodates.
If you did not or were not able to choose your accommodation centre, early in the month of Mayof the year you travel we will write to you and advise you of the name of your centre and the village name. We shall also provide you will a copy of the floor plan for the centre so that you may start planning who's sharing each room. In the same correspondence we shall also advise you of the details (name/address/telephone number) of the leader of the other party or parties sharing the transport (if applicable). Groups of 40 or more people are usually allocated a coach to themselves as we tend to use mostly 49 seat executive coaches.
It will not normally be a problem to add to your group until December and sometimes it is possible to increase even up to a week before travel! Having said that we do need to monitor availability very closely for the purposes of allocating accommodation and coach seats so we ask that you always contact us before accepting further deposits. Please note any members who decide not to travel will lose their full deposit £80.00, regardless of the reason for cancellation, deposits are always non-refundable.
JEKA uses the services of local activity providers, however, we do not employ or operate any of the activities ourselves. Instructors have local qualifications that we have checked ourselves and monitor on a regular basis.
